In a land far away, where the sun always beamed,
Lived Camela Camel who always had dreamed
Of helping all animals, both big and both small,
She wanted to be the best leader of all!
She was fair, she was kind, and her heart was so true,
She protected them no matter what they’d been through.
But in this same land, with its hot summer heat,
There lurked a vile creature that no one could beat.
A villainous Grump, all bright orange and so sly,
Who tricked and who lied, and made weak critters cry.
This Grump, oh, this Grump, had a plan oh-so-dastardly,
To have power over all, though he was quite a catastrophe.
With a flick of his tail and a grumble so deep,
He'd cheat and he’d lie and he'd lie and he'd cheat.
"Vote for me, vote for me!" he would roar with a grin,
For I am the smartest and surely will win!
I'll fix this, then I'll fix that,
Then I'll fix the way you wear your hat.
With me you'll be safer. With me you'll be strong.
I'll kick out those losers who just don't belong."
Now Camela Camel would watch with both eyes.
She saw through the Grump and his tangled of lies.
She told them the truth of the Grump’s evil ways,
And how he would trick them and ruin their days.
"I’m not perfect," she said, "but I’ll always be true,
I’ll listen and help, and I'll stand up for you!
He'll promise you riches, he'll promised you fame,
But all he can give you is chaos and shame."
But the Grump had his Grumpsters and they were quite loud!
They cheered and they shouted and stirred up the crowd.
"He’ll fix all our problems!" they said with a wink,
"Camela’s too nice — she’ll lead us to the brink!"
"If I lose, I was swindled!" orange Grump would exclaim.
"I should be your leader, if not, Camela's to blame!"
The crowd stood there silent, unsure what they should do.
Grump’s tantrum was fierce — and the tension was too.
So with that he stormed off in a huff and a puff.
Orange Grump wanted it all, but all wasn't enough.
Too soon the day came and elections were held,
The Grump won the vote and his victory swelled!
The animals cheered and some laughed and some cried.
Camela stood silent, heart heavy inside.
The Grump strutted up with his big, phony grin,
"I’ll rule you all now! Let my greatness begin!"
At first, things seemed good as the Grump gave his speech.
He promised them cookies and riches to each.
But soon as time passed and the truth came to light,
Grump’s promises faded and all was not right.
The cookies were crumbs, and the riches were none,
And some animals realized that Grump led them wrong.
The big animals prospered, faired well every day,
While the little ones withered and faded away.
"Oh, don’t worry with them!" Grump would snarl with a grin,
"The strong will survive — the weak just don’t fit in!"
Most Grumpsters were silent, they averted their eyes,
Ashamed to admit they believed all Grump’s lies.
And thus the Grump ruled them with greed and with force,
While small animals suffered a sad, bitter course.
So the animals waited, some hopeful, some sad,
And in time, they all learned the hard lessons they had.
One day Camela heard a knock! knock! at her door.
And heard, "Camela dear, we can’t take anymore!
Yes we voted for Grump but we now see the light.
He has lied to us all. We now know wrong from right!"
Camela just smiled, and she gently replied,
"It is never too late to all stand up with pride.
We learn by mistakes — this is how we grow strong.
We’ll fix this together. We'll right all that's wrong."
Then they gathered their strength to stand up and to fight,
For the truth and for justice and what's truly right.
No more tricks, no more lies, no more fear in their hearts,
For the power of truth is where happiness starts.
